2   Questions about the Radio Frequency (RF) module

2.1   What is being installed onto the water meter?

This is a radio-frequency device that transmits your water meter reading to our offices by emitting pulses in the form of radio waves. After installation your bills will always be issued on actual readings, without the need for a meter reader’s visit.

2.2   Does the RF device consume any electricity?

No. It is battery-operated.

2.3   Does the RF module pose any health risks?

No. In fact the RF modules transmits far less power than a mobile phone.

2.4   What is the size of the RF device?

100 x 125 x 113 mm.

2.5   What frequency does the RF device operate on?

It operates on 169MHz.

2.6   Is the RF module waterproof?

Yes.

2.7   Who owns the RF module?

The Water Services Corporation.

2.8   If I require further information on the RF module, who should I contact?

You may contact Customer care on free phone 80072222.

2.9   What will happen if I try to remove the wire from the water meter or module?

To do this you would need to break a seal which is illegal and is classified as meter tampering.

2.10   What would happen if I cut the wire connecting the module to the water meter?

Cutting the wire connection, or any similar behaviour, is considered meter tampering. The utility will be alerted by an alarm in such circumstances. Such actions are illegal and may lead to both criminal and civil action against the account holder.

2.11   My water meter is encased in a metal cabinet. Will it still work?

Yes.

2.12   Will the radio frequency of the AMM system affect my wifi, cordless or other house appliance?

This should not be the case. These modules use radio frequency at a very low power and should not interfere with any other electronic devices.

2.13   Will the radio frequency of the AMM system conflict with frequencies used by radio amateurs?

No.
